In the aftermath of tragedy, so many of us are left helpless with too many questions left unanswered. As the LGBTQ+ community and its allies continue to try to make sense of the tragedy at Orlando’s gay nightclub Pulse on June 12, claiming 49 innocent lives, the one question we can answer is “How can I help?”
- Contribute to Equality Florida’s GoFundMe page to help victims and their families
- There are numerous individual donation campaigns to help victims and their families with medical bills, funeral costs and overall recovery.
- CrowdRise has mounted their own campaign to raise funds to cover funeral and medical costs.
- Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer formed OneOrlando in order to “provide a way to help respond to the needs of our community, now and in the time to come, after the effects of the Pulse tragedy.”
On June 12 at Tracks Denver, members, leaders and allies of the LGBTQ+ community came together to hold a vigil for the victims of the shooting at Pulse. Jason Marsden, the Foundation’s executive director, said: “We will stand united together. We will not be divided. We will not be distracted. We will not be taken away from our authority and our power to speak our own stories in our own lives.”
